De-Gay Make-Under?
Not to long ago while at my boutique, a guy came in looking around with a female friend of his. He was very fashion forward and well she was a bit of a fashion faux pas. I couldn't tell weather he was a metro sexual or just a gay guy. I only mentioned this because he asked me if his look spelled gay. Of course I replied with a, “you tell me?" Anyway we all hit it off and he started talking about this big interview that he had coming up and how it was at a very conservative firm in NY. He was afraid that his look wasn't shall I say, the right fit for the firm. I knew right off that he wasn't the right fit for that firm.
Years ago I styled a partner of that firm’s son for his residency interview. I dealt with the father mostly, not only because he was paying, but because everything had to be approved by him.....a real control freak. He liked the job I did, and that was the beginning of my NY male clients.
Getting back to Mr. Metro, I advised him that wardrobe consulting was my art and that if his resume was as good as his look would be, he'd land the gig. He's a loud, flashy, in a good way for him type of dresser. He has a look that works for him and about 100 other people on the planet. You know the look that you think is hot, but you'd never try and pull it off, and you'd remember it to the exact. So in 2 weeks I'll work my first metro/gay make-under for a very well to do client.......when he's hired!
This made me wonder how many of us are so over the top with our fashion? How many of us need a fashion make-under to get ahead in our careers?

Rocking the Glam Cause Glam Rocks
When people think of Glam Rock, many think of David Bowie and other 80’s heavy metal bands that wore theatrical, boldly androgynous and to over the top crazy outfits. Today’s Glam Rock comeback will be much more subdued with subtle hints to set refreshingly new fashion trends. Expect to see lots of decorated leather jackets and pants, super skinny jeans and ultra tight pants. Keep an eye out for lots of animal prints, neon colors, glitter, sequins, band shirts, doc Martins and other types of combat style boots.
By no means does the glam rock revival give you an excuse to start pulling out all those old 80’s clothes. Bring hints of glam rock to you style and mix it into your every day wardrobe, but remember to keep it subtle and understated. Try pairing a bright patterned t-shirt under a blazer, or purchasing some bold accessories to bring your style alive.
A more modern day take on Glam Rock is going to be changing the wardrobe of many celebrities and up and coming bands. With the recent American Idol season, a certain front runner Adam Lambert stole America’s hearts and brought a daring glam rock infused wardrobe back into the spotlight. His uniqueness in the competition took him all the way to the number two spot, but his inventive and courageous style has helped to jump start the Glam Rock revolution in the fashion industry in the eyes of designers and trendsetters. We can also see the comeback in the styles of young musicians. Miley Cyrus of Hannah Montana has recently adopted a rocker chic vibe to her wardrobe. She pairs mismatched bright colors and patterns, while still keeping her wardrobe edgy but still commercial.
Fashionistas keep a look out for new glam rock fashions hitting the style scene. You’ll see its impact on the fashion industry in upcoming seasons and you’ll see more bold and daring fashions being taken on by everyday people. Glam Rock is making a comeback!
